Our story began when we stumbled across each other at a birthday party on October 3, 2009, with the help of mutual friends. The circumstances of our meeting one another are almost as serendipitous as the circumstances that ever so thinly veiled our existence from each other during our years at Carolina. By the grace of God, in fact, only 2 years before, C and G were on the same cruise ship for their Spring Break trip. C was with her boyfriend of the time and a small group of friends, and G was with 65 of his fraternity brothers. Unbeknownst to one another, this was not the time for their stars to cross and them to meet one another. By October of 2009, however, the time had come. G was at a crossroads in his career, treading water and working on diving back into his passion: politics. But with waning resources, and living with two friends in Charlotte, he was running himself ragged chasing down emerging opportunities. Suffice to say, he was not in the market for a girlfriend, nor could anyone hold his interest. C had just embarked on a new chapter in her life. She was striking out on her own, in a new city, with 3 long years of law school ahead of her and lots of new friends to meet. On that night one of C's newfound friends at law school was having a birthday get-together at her house. C's soon-to-be roommate, A, happened to be a good high school friend of G's and was dating his roommate, A. She planned to bring A with her to the party and had invited G to attend as well, because they planned to introduce him to another of A’s friends. Neither G nor A could have known that his attending the party to meet someone else was merely the means to a more lasting and life-changing end: meeting C. He almost decided to meet friends out elsewhere that night, but ultimately wound up tagging along with A. When they got to her friends’ condo, G didn’t know anyone other than A and A, so he sort of hung close, making small talk and introductions. But when G saw C across the room in a blue skirt standing with a group of girls, a twinkle in her eye, and a bright smile so wide it made her nose wrinkle, he was immediately intrigued. He took an opportunity to move over near the group of girls so that he could introduce himself around while opening the refrigerator for a beverage: very smooth. They spoke only briefly, and he retreated to his comfort zone with Alex. When the time came to head out on the town, G and two others offered to drive, and everyone split up for the ride downtown. By some stroke of luck, C wound up riding in the front seat of G’s car with him on the way uptown...In the very same seat where she would soon find herself beside him for the next 2 years. They talked and smiled at each other during the ride, and on the walk downtown he nervously tried not to pay her too much more attention than the others in the group. They reached their destination, got split up and mingled in with the crowd. But there was something about C that G couldn’t shake. When he saw her standing by herself, he knew what he had to do. He walked over, made up an excuse to resume their conversation, looked her in the eye and asked her if she might like to go on a date sometime. Three days later they went on their first date at Cajun Queen in Charlotte, where 2 years later G would propose to her under the stars. They continued to see each other over the next couple months, although, with her school work and his job hunt, they weren’t yet ‘officially’ dating. But when confronted with the prospect of a move to Albany, NY to take a great job offer, G knew he would regret it forever if he left C behind. He opted to stay and a few days later they officially became a couple. From there, things seemed to fly. Before we knew it, G was moving to Winston-Salem to take a job with Senator Richard Burr, and we were traveling every weekend, come rain, sleet, snow, hell or high water to make sure that we got to see one another. Feelings of caring turned to love, respect to adoration, and endearment to commitment. We both knew that this was something a few hundred miles couldn’t stop, and so C powered on, through another year of law school, while G logged long hours at work. With the end of 2010 came the opportunity for roots to break the soil in Raleigh. Over the last year and a half, G and C knew it was time to start making plans and talked often about their long future together, and the life they were eager to build. As G saw great faith and appreciation for his hard work turn to opportunity and promotion, and C saw her success and dedication in law school bringing her into the home stretch, the time had come to begin another chapter. And though this new page in our story is not absent uncertainty itself, we know that our love, faith and devotion to one another, and the dreams we share, offer us a new path of unbounded possibilities...

C&G's Story
I have permission to share "their story" as written by G:
